They get ABUSED.įunctionally, only the crack opener, nail puller, and chisel edge are actually regularly used the other functions are mostly ignored in the world where paint rollers are considered disposable and rarely washed, paint comes in 5-gallon buckets that don’t have lids to pry like cans, and everyone is wearing at least a small tool belt holding their general-purpose tools like screwdrivers, nail pullers, nut drivers, knives, and bottle openers. It’s used for everything from protecting surfaces to light demolition to surface prep, scraping, and spreading, but very rarely for a paint-specific task (ironic, right?). I have been through all of the box store house brands, the discount brands, and many of the better brands: none of them held up to regular use at home construction/renovation sites, where the painter’s tool is probably the most versatile and used general-purpose tool. If you need this many bottle openers, you probably shouldn’t be using these tools or operating heavy machinery. As for the bottle opener, why does every tool have a bottle opener add-on. I’d use actual drivers and for such tasks. I’ve never missed the driver and screwdriver. I chose the Warner with focus on the Made in America aspect and the tool is robust enough to experiment with in a variety of use cases. It’s what the YouTube kids call “satisfying.” In fact, I find that part of painting almost therapeutic. Įvery time I paint, the way the roller cleaner squeezes every drop of paint out is like magic. I have the Warner 3.25 inch version picked up at Lowe’s for $8. It’s got a tight enough edge to scrape and clean but not sharp enough to be dangerous. Given the price point I’m never afraid to abuse this tool and it never quits going. This type of tool is surprisingly useful for the home, DIY user. It’s going in my tool box.Īre there any specific Husky tools you’d like ToolGuyd explore? The beauty of partnering with Husky and Home Depot is that this is a tool I wouldn’t have purchased for myself, but once available, it has come in handy. How do you feel about multi-functional painting tools? Or, you could use it to close up a paint once you’re done and ready to start cleaning up. Oh – and the hammer! The tool has a little heft to it (in a good way), and so I took advantage of the handle’s metal striking end to very gently tap stubborn parts that needed a little motivation to move. I imagine that it’s really meant for seating small nails flush into a wall or panel. I also used one of the open end wrenches to lightly tighten a fastener because the Husky tool was closer than any wrenches. I used it to scrape wood glue on a small woodworking glue-up, to a sticker off a piece of machinery, and to pry open jar of wax. I have a few minor painting projects coming up, and this will definitely come in handy.īut so far, I have used this for all kinds of things except any painting projects. That’s because the tool comes with a slick pre-applied clearcoat finish, presumably for easier cleanup and to prevent rusting. The handle is quite comfortable, and seems to be made from the same grip material as Husky’s screwdriver and plier handles.Īs for the numbers that I wrote on the blade with marker, they wiped away quite easily. If you have to loosen something to paint around it, this little 4-in-1 screwdriver might save you a trip to you tool box. 4) Crack opener – opening up a crack makes it easy to seal and patch.ĥ) Paint can opener – if you lose a paint can lid prying tool, this is the next best thing.Ħ) Convex scraper – use this edge on rounded surfaces.ġ1) Hammer – who hasn’t used the end of their painting tool as a hammer?ġ2 – 15) Slotted screwdrivers, sizes: 3/16″, 1/4″, 5/16″, 3/8″.

26 The difficulty in differentiating anxiety from medical disorders and the overall ubiquity of sleep difficulties in late life might have led to the limited reliability of the somatic items of anxiety measures used with older respondents. Nevertheless, somatic experiences are core aspects of many anxiety disorders and to ignore them would be equivalent to exclude crucial symptoms of anxiety. 5, 10, 11, 24, 25 Due to their original use with younger adults, existing anxiety diagnostic criteria and measures for older adults were heavily weighted with somatic items, making the differentiation between medical and psychological causes of anxiety complicated in this population. Since there has been an increase in the incidence of physical illness with the growing age of individuals, 23 a higher rate of medical comorbidity and correlated pharmacotherapies often complicate the diagnosis and evaluation of anxiety in elderly. It is unclear if many of the current tools take into account the uniqueness of the experience and phenomenology of anxiety in older adults. 20 This evidence suggests the presence of multiple and important implications for anxiety assessment. 20 – 22 This tendency could explain the diminished reliability associated with items of anxiety measures using words like “never” or “always”. 17 – 19 Additionally, they are less likely to endorse statements that use absolute terms on mental health measures. For example, in discussing negative emotions, older adults are often more reluctant to report than younger adults and thus more likely to minimize their own psychological symptoms. Importantly, age-related factors also arise in self-reported communication of the experiences of anxiety. 14 For example, older adults report more concern about health compared to younger adults, whose worries are more focused on finances and family 15 report less of virtually every negative affective factor (eg, depression, anxiety, guilt, shyness, and hostility) than younger adults 14 are more likely to experience anxiety directly (eg, fearful, scared, afraid) compared to younger adults, whose anxiety was more characterized by shame or guilt (eg, ashamed of something, guilty, like you did something wrong) 14 and report particular fear situations or objects generally not included on existing fear surveys, such as fear of being a burden on their families. 5 Research on affect phenomenology has shown that older adults may experience affect or interpret affective terms differently. Finally, guidance for clinical evaluation and future research are proposed in an effort to highlight the importance of clinical assessment in the promotion of clinically relevant therapeutic choices.Īging-related differences in anxiety symptoms are well known. In particular, information about reliability, validity evidence based on data from clinical and nonclinical samples of older adults, and availability of age-appropriate norms are provided. For each tool, psychometric data is investigated in depth. This review covers commonly and currently used self-report inventories for assessing anxiety in older adults. Unfortunately, the detection of anxiety disorders in late life is complicated by a series of factors that make it different from assessment in younger cohorts, such as differential symptom presentation, high comorbidity with medical and mental disorders, the aging process, and newly emergent changes in life circumstances. With increasing numbers of older adults in the general population, anxiety will become a widespread problem in late life and one of the major causes of health care access contributing to high societal and individual costs. Secondly, some people intensely dislike TNR because they think it has been overused, and regard it as the font you choose when you are not choosing a font. Originally designed for The Times in London, its characters are slightly narrowed, so that more of them can be squished into a newspaper column. Times New Roman is ubiquitous and familiar, which means it is probably the safest option, but it does have a couple of drawbacks. You would like your examiners to feel as comfortable as possible while their eyes are traversing the many, many pages of your thesis, so maximising legibility and readability is a good idea. The other problem with choosing a sans serif for your body text is that if you want passages in italics (for example, lengthy participant quotes) often this will be displayed as slanted letters, rather than as a true italic font. Lacking the little projecting bits (serifs) at the end of characters makes Calibri and its many friends, such as Arial, Helvetica and Verdana, look smoother and clearer on a screen, but generally makes them less readable than a serif typeface when used for printed text. With the release of Office 2007, the default became a sans serif typeface called Calibri. For many years, it was the default body text for Microsoft Word. Times New Roman is the standard choice for academic documents, and the thesis preparation guidelines of some universities stipulate its use. Just bear in mind that there is no need to immerse yourself so deeply in the topic that you start quibbling about whether it’s a font or a typeface that you are choosing. But as someone who edits theses for a living, I think a bit of time spent on fonts is part of the process of buffing and polishing what is, after all, one of the most important documents you will ever produce. Her website is Īrguably, this question is a classic time waster and the student who poses it should be told to just get on with writing up their research. ( answer) Ubiquitous Spring interview question, Spring is a framework that helps Java programmers in development. Let's first start with the basics in this section, you will see some Spring core interview questions focused upon the Spring framework, how it works, what benefits it provides, and dependency injection and inversion of control concepts.ġ) What is the Spring framework? Why Java programmers should use the Spring framework? Spring Security has established itself as the go-to framework for security Java web applications.īased on your work experience, the interviewer can ask questions from core Spring or these modules. Spring Cloud is evolving to become the best framework for developing cloud-based Java frameworks and Microservices, which is a need for the future. The spring framework is divided into many different modules like Spring MVC, Spring Integration, Spring Batch, Spring LDAP, Spring Security, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and several other modules that focus on a particular area.įor example, Spring Boot tries to make it even easier to use the Spring framework by reducing the amount of configuration you need to put in for Spring itself. The best thing is that Spring has been evolving since its inception and addressing Java developers' concerns in different areas. It revolutionized the Java development when it initially came with concepts of Dependency Injection and Inversion of Control, which made writing a testable and maintainable Java application.īut the Spring framework just didn't stop there it also provides valuable API to Java programmers. For those who don't know, the Spring framework is one of the most famous structures for Java applications, which aims to simplify Java development. With the immense popularity of Spring frameworks like Spring MVC and Spring Boot in the Java world, the focus on Spring skills on interviews increases daily. Spring Interview Question is one of the first things Java programmers should prepare before appearing on any Java or Spring interview. When your professor advises students to get an “early start” on your speech, he or she probably hopes that you will begin your research right away and move on to developing a thesis statement and outlining the speech as soon as possible. The consequences of ineffective listening in a classroom can be much worse. Everyone else understood that the meeting place was the “west side” location, but you wrongly understood it as the “east side” location and therefore missed out on part of the fun. Eventually you find out that your friends are at a different theater all the way across town where the same movie is playing. For example, say you have made plans with your friends to meet at a certain movie theater, but you arrive and nobody else shows up. For one thing, if a speaker does not enunciate clearly, it may be difficult to tell what the message was-did your friend say, “I think she’ll be late for class,” or “my teacher delayed the class”? Notice in Figure 4.3 “Stages of Feedback” that stages two, three, and four are represented by the brain because it is the primary tool involved with these stages of the listening process.Įven when we have understood the words in a message, because of the differences in our backgrounds and experience, we sometimes make the mistake of attaching our own meanings to the words of others. In the understanding stage, we attempt to learn the meaning of the message, which is not always easy. This is only one example of the ways that hearing alone can require sincere effort, but you must hear the message before you can continue the process of listening. In this example, our coauthor had difficulty receiving the message because of the external noise. When the candidate finally started speaking, the cheering and yelling was so loud that the candidate couldn’t be heard easily despite using a speaker system. One of the authors of this book recalls attending a political rally for a presidential candidate at which about five thousand people were crowded into an outdoor amphitheater. Notice in Figure 4.3 “Stages of Feedback” that this stage is represented by the ear because it is the primary tool involved with this stage of the listening process. At this stage, we are still only hearing the message. Schlessinger, Ph.D.Receiving is the intentional focus on hearing a speaker’s message, which happens when we filter out other sources so that we can isolate the message and avoid the confusing mixture of incoming stimuli. He reveals with brilliant clarity the many modes in which the analyst may listen to his patient and listen to himself while with his patient, and he provides the student a theoretical and practical base from which to learn to listen "like an analyst".' Salman Akhtar has taken up the challenge and demonstrates, in this masterful volume, how complex and multifaceted is this seemingly simple act. Far from being so, listening analytically is an essential skill that may take the analyst years to learn and is a skill that would seem to be unteachable. 'It might seem a matter to be taken for granted of course, analysts listen to their patients. Ira Brenner, MD, Training and Supervising Analyst, Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia It is bound to become another classic in the Akhtar tradition!' His book is replete with experience-near vignettes and contains numerous pearls of clinical wisdom. Like a virtuoso musician, he guides us to better discern the sounds and silences of the analytic hour. 'In this slim but remarkable volume, Salman Akhtar has recast psychoanalysis, the renowned "talking cure", as essentially a "listening cure". The ground covered ranges from diverse methods of listening through the informative potential of the countertransference to the outer limits of our customary attitude where psychoanalytic listening no longer helps and might even be contraindicated.' Taking Freud’s early description of how an analyst ought to listen as its starting point, the book traverses considerable historical, theoretical, and clinical territory. This book aims to rectify this problem by focusing upon analytic listening. And yet, the listening end of the equation has received short shrift in analytic literature. Talking without listening can mislead and harm. Listening with no talking can only go so far. Both elements are integral to clinical work. Psychoanalysis is a listening and talking cure. However, the focus upon the patient’s and therapist’s speaking activities diverted attention from how the two parties listen to each other. She was correct insofar as psychoanalysis does place verbal exchange at the center stage. 'Joseph Breuer’s celebrated patient, Anna O., designated psychoanalysis to be a "talking cure". Ready, let's get started! The 'victim' I chose for this build is a late 60's Grants mower. If you fall off ( which we often do) the mower must automatically shut down or it'll keep right on going! Racing mowers might seem silly, which it sort of is, but you can get hurt if you're not careful. Lastly, your mower must have an approved jet ski/snowmobile style safety tether switch. Secondly, if you do plan on racing, make sure and check out the rules for your chapter and wear appropriate safety gear such as a helmet ( motorbike), gloves, boots, and long pants. My mower is built using ARMA ( American Racing Mower Association) rules and regulations. You can, and will get hurt if you do so, and trust me- I've seen enough people wreck due to this very reason. So to make this point doubly clear, it is NOT a good idea to take a bone stock mower and make it go fast. So its important that the frame, brakes, steering, engine, and wheels are modified or altered to handle this additional speed. Many of these mowers go 50MPH or more.Making a race mower isn't as simple as taking a stock tractor and making it go fast without any alterations. Please read the following paragraph before proceeding.īefore we start, there's a bit of safety to discuss.Yes, racing lawn mowers from an outward perspective is sort of funny ( which it is!)But its important to realize that racing mowers such as these are heavily modified to handle much greater speeds than the original mower was designed for. The next plans I have include steering upgrades. Also- I'm constantly making changes and modifications to the final machine so check back to see what I've done. Have fun turning what used to be the family lawn mower into a fire-breathing high speed racing machine. In this demo, you'll get some ideas of how you can make a real racing riding mower used in national events. As always, feel free to ask questions and I'll do my best to answer. Thanks to everyone who has commented before. Otherwise, start reading below for the original build. If you've read this before, proceed to step 12 for the latest updates. Notice: I've recently completely turned this mower into a new build. |
